In September '99 I went to Trax'99 with the GTiR Owners Club, there were 23 of us and we competed in 0 - 60 runs and track time.

Running with my car at 0.8 bar of boost, which at that time was producing about 230 bhp, I produced my fastest time of 5.1 seconds which was  the 10th fastest time of 670 cars

Two days later I went to PowerStation's rolling road and produced an initial run of 255bhp. After some tweaking of the timing my car gave out an output of 266.5bhp but the car was hitting the speed limiter in forth gear so  it was estimated to be producing 270bhp and more power was to be unleashed when my CAT replacement pipe was fitted.

After returning to Guernsey I had the CAT pipe fitted and did notice an increase in power, especially mid range, and the car sounded even beefier.

Around the middle of November I notice my car is making a strange noise, upon further inspection by Nissan mechanics it becomes apparent that the big end bearings need replacing - a full engine out job.

After speaking to Simon Norris @ Norris designs a deal is struck up, not only an I having the big end bearings replaced but also

Full rebuild including lightening and balancing

Norris Designs Low Compression Pistons

Norris Designs Metal Head Gasket

Norris Designs Stage 2 ( Super ) hybrid turbo

Norris Designs Front Mounted Intercooler.

Unichip and rolling road set up.

Group N Fuel Pump

Group N Fuel Regulator

With these mods the car will have at least 350 bhp and a huge amount of torque at 1.4 bar. I picked the car up and I've done 1,250 miles and I've got 250 to go.

Here's what happened.......

……I arrived on Friday the 21st of January in Southampton, Nigel Pegg met me in the town center and very kindly gave me a lift to Simon Norris’ workshop ( thanks Mr. Pegg ). It was a great feeling to set my eyes on my black beauty after being apart from it for near-on six weeks, it was shiny with long black flowing panels and an exhaust note that would turn even the most hardened GTiR-hater into an uncontrollable dribbling wreck. I ran towards it and popped the bonnet – WOW – it was an absolute work of art underneath, the shiny pipes made a distinct impact on my loins. I took it out for a quick bit of nookie and stalled it about 10 times ( a Ford Focus doesn’t prepare you for a Full AP Racing clutch ) but my first impressions were that it felt extremely strong from 2,000 rpm onwards and the engine note had changed also.

Friday night was spent consuming alcoholic beverage with Cashy, Ashley & Emma, Craig, Nick, Simon and last but not least Mark ( S&E ). Saturday was spent getting and going to Southend cruise – Thanks to Simon M and his family for letting us invade his house. After the cruise ( which I thought was awesome ) we stayed at the Hardcastle’s residence, thanks very much Paul and Tracy and thanks for the breakfast and the trip to Halfords.

Sunday was spent driving back to Bath and then going to Weston cruise with Simon Norris*( www.norrisdesigns.com ) and Mark. After an annoying mix up I arrived in Guernsey with 900 miles on the clock. I was in Guernsey for 1 day and then I was off on a work course for 3 days. Anyway it’s Monday morning now and I’ve got 1,250 on the clock and I’m pleased to say that up till my 4,000rpm limit the cars an absolute beast and it thinks nothing of blowing out a good victory flame for all to see. The workmanship that has gone into the Intercooler kit is unreal ( pictures will be appearing very soon ) and Simon has provided me with some pictures of the pistons etc. To sum up the car has been transformed, before it would come on boost and then fireworks, now theres fireworks before the fireworks (?) the car feels really strong from 1,500 rpm and beyond. A full spec sheet will be appearing soon with all the mods that have been made.

The future holds………

Once the car has covered at least 1,500 then it can be fully mapped up, at the moment I’m only running about 0.7 bar and it’s going to be mapped for a 1.4 bar maximum!

Once the cars up and running there are a few extra missions;

Brakes – 325mm Godspeed discs and calipers

Adjustable Shocks

A magazine feature

And the current big mission – A totally modified front bumper – I purchased a brand new bumper from Mark ( www.separts.co.uk ) and work starts this week – I’ll keep you all posted with pics as soon as it’s finished.

*Simon Norris’ 200SX is totally unreal, if anyone is near his garage at any time then give him a call and go for a drive in it – you won’t regret it. With 350bhp from a 1.8 it feels and sounds like a Skyline.
